  • The Best Way to Get Files to Your iPad

Recently I have been hooked on Dropbox (Sign up for Dropbox here). Since everyone is constantly figuring how to make the iPad a better tool (because at some point a USB port would be handy), I thought I would pass this along. Dropbox allows you to create a folder on several of your PCs or Macs and easily share files. The iPad version makes this a charm to get PDFs and Word Docs onto your iPad. I tried MobileMe and didn't like it. This is a way better alternative. Dropbox also allows you to share folders with other ...

  • What Tablets Are Really Missing

Now what you haven't made up your mind about yet is all of the other tablets out there-the Xoom, Galaxy, etc. Everyone's got one or will have one soon. Most of them seem boring. Nothing earth-shattering. Most of them took the bad parts of the iPad (lack of Flash) and recreated them (Xoom doesn't have Flash). Or, many tablets created new issues. It's hard to beat Steve Jobs' market research. I think the iPad is the smallest screen size that you can get away with and still be called a 'tablet'. So many of the other tablet's screen size are ...

  • iPad Apps-Are we going backwards, just a little?

There's a lot of great apps for the iPad, obviously, but would we need so many great apps if Safari just worked completely? Ignoring the fact that Flash doesn't work on the iP-devices, rich text edit boxes don't seem to work either, as I've noticed with both Wordpress and Sitefinity. Logging in to Google Adwords actually crashes Safari. Google Analytics uses Flash so that doesn't work either. Wordpress has a free iPad app that works wonderfully. There are a few Google Analytics apps that work great too, for a fee. Here's where we've gone backwards. For years software has been ...

  • Will the iPad kill the iPhone? Or the Kindle?

After a solid week of using the iPad every day, and almost every hour I’m awake, I finally went back to a device that I used the love-Amazon’s Kindle. It’s hard to read books on the iPad, as there’s just too much eye strain. The Kindle feels more like a book, reads more like a book, and weighs more like a book. I know the iPad has been out for the less than a month, but some books I wanted to buy were on the Kindle, and not in the iBooks store. I have tried the Amazon Kindle app for ...

  • The Best and Worst of the iPad

Hands down, the best thing about the iPad is the instant-on feature. Press the power button, and it’s on. No powering up, no fan lumbering up to speed. There’s not even an Apple logo and ‘loading…’ text that flashes by (think Windows). When you want to use it, you can. When you’re done, it’s instant-off. There’s just no waiting for this device. Apple has been working on this concept for a while now. Recently they ran ads for a laptop that would be on by the time you opened the screen. Another best item that I like-the power cord is ...

  • Of Course the iPad will Matter!

The biggest change I’ve seen between the iPhone rollout and the iPad rollout is the menion of ‘business-ready’. The iPhone was always meant to be a consumer product, although it found its way in to many businesses pretty quickly. I’ve noticed many IT guys with Windows Mobile and Androids, but the CEO has an iPhone. Apple started pushing the concept of the iPad for business pretty early, and they dedicate a whole section of the iPad site to business (http://www.apple.com/ipad/business/). They mention connection to Microsoft Exchange, security, and a powerful platform for apps. While the iPad is a ...

  • Will the iPad matter?

April 3rd is the big day, when the iPad finally hits the shelves and users can finally purchase it and finally really start to either love it, or hate it. There’s been a lot of comparisons to Netbooks, specifically some nice ones that HP has come out with. There’s also been alot of comparisons the iPhone and iPod, as everyone tries to figure out how this new device fits in. With all the talk, most of the comparisons point heavily to the hardware, the memory, video, lack of USB support, etc. From a hardware standpoint, the Netbook wins. But-as we’ve ...
